Report - A Review of 2002 Activities to the Cary Parks, Recreation
and Cultural Resources Committee.

| Began working with Camp Canine to organize an event in early 2003
that will offer off-leash play for dogs in a safe, contained area.
The purpose of this event is to:
- Promote the concept of a dog park and its benefits to a community
- Raise funds for Cary Dog Park Club
- Increase membership in Cary Dog Park Club

| Met with the following organizations to explore potential for hosting
an event in Cary that features an off-leash play area and allows the
opportunity for fund-raising:
- Cary Parks and Cultural Resources
- Organizers of Dog Daze, an event held in Cary to raise funds
for local rescue groups.
- Camp Canine, a private business in Cary offering canine day
care and socialization.

| Public Input Meeting for
Cary's Parks, Greenways and Bikeways Master Plan

- Organized a successful turnout at Cary's public input meeting
for the Master Plan for parks, greenways and cultural arts. Met
directly with town consultants and sent information packets containing
presentations and the benefits of dog parks to a community (these
packets had not been received).
- Hired a Playgroup Coordinator and a Liaison for People for Parks.

- Developed professional materials for Cary Dog Park Club (letterhead,
business cards, etc.)
- Gave a presentation to the Cary Rotary Club
- Created a Cary Dog Park Club "steering committee"
- Delivered overview/information materials to CPCR to mail to
town consultants
- As directed by CPCR: Organized dog park advocates to attend
the Oct 2 Public Input Meeting

- Launched Cary Dog Park Club at Cary's Lazy Daze event. Had ten
volunteers manning our booth. Raised nearly $500 by selling branded
t-shirts and milk bones. (see photos)
- Created a professional website: www.carydogparkclub.org
- Introduced "Dog Play Groups" within the community to promote
the concept of a dog park within a fenced backyard. We now offer
play groups almost every weekend.

- Toured potential park sites with Cary parks staff: Middle Creek
Park, Thomas Brooks Park and the Bartley Property.
- Created public survey to conduct input from Cary citizens

- Met with Holly Springs dog park advocates to discuss efforts
at Womble Park
- Toured Walnut Creek land (near Cary Towne Center) as potential
site for dog park.

| Delivered formal presentation to Cary Parks and Cultural Resources
and Advisory Board. Presented information (what is a dog park, what
are the benefits to the community and stated interest in land located
at Tryon Road/Cary Parkway)

- Followed Cary Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources' suggestion
to tour land across from Kids Together Park (Tryon Rd/Cary Parkway)
as a potential location for a dog park.
- Prepared introductory presentation for January parks meeting
with Advisory Board.

| PUP met with Mary Barry and Doug McRainey. Discussed park sites
and importance of adding a dog park into Cary's master plans.
